A Determined Student:
Story from SLM India
28th January 2010
The following report tells the testimony of a student from Myanmar who graduated from SLM. Be inspired as you read this latest report from our India Base.
Thomas came to our first ever SLM year in North India. When he joined the Bible School, he spoke and understood very little English. However, he worked diligently in and out of the class, often translating notes using his Burmese bible and dictionary and actively participated in prayer and worship times. Miraculously he stayed for the duration of the course and made great progress in his understanding. Prior to his graduation, he requested to return to us to undertake the course again, he was so enjoying what he began to understand and told us he had met with Jesus and was coming to know Him in and through the school. So we allowed him to come for a second time, he had really developed his English skills and soaked up all the teaching offered him.
After graduation in 2005, he returned to Myanmar to join his brother’s ministry and began to do whatever his hand found to do, particularly working in the orphanage that had over 100 children. He also began to teach a youth discipleship group under the guise of teaching English! He also started to co-ordinate and encourage other SLM students that returned from SLM to Myanmar and began working in remote areas of Myanmar.
Our relationship with him has continued to grow and flourish as he has sent more and more students to SLM, his own father included. We began to really pray and seek what God’s will was in the connection and relationship that He had very obviously formed. It became evident that his desire was to teach sound biblical doctrine to his people and he wanted to teach the material he had received in SLM. Last year he began to translate one of the main resources we use into Burmese, this was completed late last year and has gone to print. He now has a powerful tool in his hand that not only he, but countless Burmese students of SLM, can use to teach people the wonderful life available to them in Christ.
